Job Role: Design Engineer
Location: Wynthenshawe
Shift: Days Only
Salary: Up to £29,500 Per Annum
Metalis is working in partnership with a specialist manufacturer in Manchester who due to continuous growth are looking to hire a skilled Design Engineer on a permanent contract.
Job Duties:
- Designing and developing soft furnishing products for the civil and military industry
- Generating production drawings for soft furnishing products, using written specifications
- Working closely with the Office of Airworthiness to maintain compliance with appropriate regulations
- Processing drawing change requests in accordance with our change management procedure
- Reverse engineering soft furnishing patterns and products using 2D metrology equipment
- Overseeing work through the business workflow and into full-scale production
- Supporting and working closely with other departments of the business and suppliers where required
- Ensuring work areas are maintained to a clean and safe standard
- Attending internal and customer-facing meetings as and when required
- Attending any training programs internal or external
- Supporting objectives set by the Design Office Manager and by the business
- Performing general Design Office duties.
Job Requirements:
- Degree-level qualification, or equivalent experience, in engineering field
- An understanding of Design for Manufacture (DfM) principles of textiles and soft furnishings
- An awareness towards the aviation industry and its regulations
- An understanding of working on low-volume projects with internal and external stakeholders
- Can generate production drawings in AutoCAD or similar 2D CAD application
- Can use SolidWorks to manipulate and model soft furnishing products. o Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) level desirable
- Can use SolidWorks PDM vaulting system
- Can use Aprotec DMS vaulting system
- Can use in-house digitising equipment and associated software to reverse engineer patterns
- Can find solutions to complex technical problems relating to soft furnishings
- Can support design work with calculations and theory where needed
- Can comfortably use MS Office applications including Word and Excel.
- An ability to work autonomously, against budget and schedule constraints
- Resilience to working in environments under the pressure of tight deadlines
- Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills
Salary & Shift:
- Up to £29,500 Per Annum
- Monday to Friday, days only
- Mon - Friday, 08.00 - 16.30pm (Negotiable)
- 40 hours per week
- 5 weeks holiday plus 8 Bank Holidays
