Production Supervisor

The role will assist the Production Manager to deliver the production plan, coordinate the manufacturing, assembly and support staff to enable products to be delivered on time and within budget. The Production Supervisor will make sure goods and services are produced safely, cost-effectively, on time and that they meet the required quality standards.

Purpose of role

  • To lead the Production functions within the factory which includes all manufacturing, assembly and electrical departments.
  • Ensure all operations are carried on in an appropriate, cost-effective way
  • Take the lead from the Production Manager to improve production processes and best practices.
  • Deliver the strategic and operational objectives set out by the Production Manager.
  • Ensure appropriate Material Requirement Planning is in place to support the business.
  • Help the organization's processes remain legally compliant.
  • Ensure spend budgets and forecasts are considered in the work place.
  • Monitor, record and affect production KPIs
  • Ensure staff comply with management systems, processes and best practices.
  • Ensure all staff and visitors on-site abide by the company Health and Safety policies.
  • Key Functional Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Ensure staff follow the production plan put in place to ensure we deliver customer's orders on-time, every time.
  • Ensure the quality of production satisfies customer's expectations.
  • Lead the production teams.
  • Record and deal with Time & Attendance (T&A) issues such as Lateness, Absenteeism, Sickness and Holidays with the Production Managers advice.
  • Ensure each department update their team boards daily.
  • Ensure each department is operating safely and respecting company H&S at all times.
  • Monitor and address production KPI's daily: OTD, RFT, Safety, Throughput, 5S, Costs and Staffing in all production departments.
  • Ensure daily team boards are updated daily with the required SQDCP information.
  • Address any constraints daily that deter from delivering the daily SQDCP requirements.
  • Ensure staffing plans are updated weekly for the following week and advise or address, where applicable, any resource issues.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of actions are in place and undertaken to keep KPI's green.
  • Manage production staff to deliver daily KPI's.
  • Collaborate with production support functions where required; Buyers, Engineers and Quality Engineers to ensure required levels of support is in place at all times to deliver product on-time and to the required standards.
  • Assist Production Manager with providing and delivering lead-times.
  • Alert Production Manager of any discrepancies in Bills of Materials.
  • Advise of any daily constraints to deliver the day and put actions in place to remove any constraints. Escalate appropriately if required.
  • Work with the H&S officer to ensure risk assessments are completed when required and any pertinent actions are implemented in an appropriate timely manner.
  • Actively find ways to improve the Production and support functions to improve Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD).
  • Ensure all 5S audits and actions are completed and resultant actions closed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with all Production teams.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with all internal support functions; Sales, Engineering, Technical, H&S, Purchasing and Quality.

Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience of managing and coordinating production teams.
  • Understanding of the business production KPI's and how to apply them in the workplace; Safety, Quality, Delivery and Performance.
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office tools particularly Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good time management skills is a must.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Hands on approach to leadership style.
  • Important qualities include integrity, accountability, empathy, humility, resilience, vision, influence and positivity.
  • Able to manage conflict when required.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience of Supervising a team.
  • Good electrical and mechanical assembly knowledge.
  • Production planning experience.

Desirables

  • Working knowledge of the Product range.
  • Consideration for how the business runs and awareness of possible design impacts.
  • Knowledge of class requirements relating to MGPS, ICCP, Ballast Water and RO water makers.
  • Leadership and/or management qualifications (E.g., CMI, NVQ, BTEC, ILM) is an advantage
  • Professional qualification for mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Qualifications in Production Planning.
  • Supply Chain Management qualifications.
  • Lean principles experience.
