RAW MATERIALS BUYER - METALS

We are seeking an experienced Raw Materials Buyer who will be responsible for all aspects of purchasing raw materials and other commodities. Must be experienced in purchasing different raw materials including aluminium, steel, steel plate, and titanium.Ideally with an aerospace background/experience

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic suppliers and act as the material lead for bids
  • Develop all aspects of the materials supply chain, including negotiations and contract development, qualifications, delivered quality and establishment of performance standards
  • Obtain quotes for material and resources
  • Raise and obtain approval for purchase orders
  • Manage and expedite to required lead-times
  • Develop and utilize metrics to drive continuous improvements of on time delivery, inventory management and vendor service levels
  • Support data gathering and analysis for key meetings - Business Reviews, Rate readiness and Management meetings
  • Attend daily operational meetings to provide updates from the supply chain and implement daily actions
  • Support annual spend and budget forecasting
  • Identify opportunities to drive improvements in service levels to internal stakeholders
  • Cost Reduction - provide ideas to support departmental targets
  • Interface with Finance to resolve any invoice discrepancies regarding material purchased
  • Interface with quality department regarding circumstances surrounding rejected raw material and communicate revised customer certifications
  • Frequently source new suppliers/research new products and what material is needed for their manufacture
  • Review customer specs to determine and create a network of approved suppliers
  • Knowledge of different raw materials and their physical properties including but not limited to aluminium, steel, steel plate, titanium etc.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles
  • Knowledge of working under AS9100
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, sea, or road
  • Knowledge of raw materials and how purchasing functions relate to production processes or methods
  • Knowledge of machining and manufacturing principles, methods and techniques
  • Ability to perform financial analysis and assess the relevant benefits and costs of a situation



Position Requirements

  • Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) desired or working towards the qualification

Experience:

  • Procurement or operational experience or equivalent in a customer facing role
