We are currently recruiting for a TOOLING ENGINEER, to join a reputable and well respected company, who are Global Aerospace manufacturers. Boasting an impressive and modern facility in MANSFIELD, this role is PERMANENT.

Salary:

Salary is paid at £13.90ph

Hours:

Monday to Friday, regular days.

Purpose:

  • To manage client tooling and fixtures for customers and programs.

Duties:

  • Ensure that Client tool management process conforms to standards
  • Own and manage the internal tooling log
  • Maintain and improve tooling database to capture tool status - modifications, calibrations, reworks
  • Maintain Customer Tooling Registers where applicable (Airbus ATAME)
  • Liaise with NPI Program Management advising tooling concepts and designs. Manage tool and fixture manufacturers through design, manufacture, delivery and commission
  • Identify suitable sub-con facilities to manufacture new tooling, repair, modify existing tooling
  • Identify if tooling modifications required checks on first off production parts to either instigate a FAIR or conformation that that component features have maintained compliance
  • For new programmes support engineering by creating Statement of Works for tool suppliers to capture tooling design, inspection requirements identification and packaging to ensure tools are fit for purpose and designed with Health and Safety considerations
  • Where tooling and equipment is issued by the customer, liaise with the relevant Customer Engineering team to establish an agreed buy off/commissioning process
  • Establish a routine maintenance, calibration and verification routine for all current tooling. Document all activities. Ensure all tooling identification is up to date detailing calibration/maintenance periods and current part issue
  • Establish legacy tooling return to customer process
  • For customer owned tools ensuring authorisation and costs are agreed prior to modification or correction
  • Where applicable arrange suitable training for the Operations team. Produce any requires visual aids and/or standard operation procedures
  • Ensure tools are handled, stored and used in the intended way to prevent damage. Best practise and line walk reviews required to ensure compliance
  • Repairs and upgrades necessary to maintain tooling condition to maintain the finished part characteristics to meet drawing requirements
  • Complete any quality audit, answerbacks raised against you
  • Carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required within the jobholder's capability, consistent with the terms and conditions of employment

Experience:

  • Minimum of an engineering apprenticeship preferably backed up with an ONC/HNC, substantial experience and knowledge of production / manufacturing methods is essential as well as a background in tool and fixture design and methods
  • Practical experience of at least one of the following disciplines: Sheet Metal Work, Machining, Fitting, Assembly, Welding, Metal Treatments
  • Excellent project management and administration skills
  • A minimum of 5 years in an engineering environment ideally within the Aerospace sector
