Universal Grinder

Metalis are seeking a skilled Universal Grinder to join our leading manufacturing client, who manufactures parts for serveral industries such as aerospace, automotive and oil/gas. The Universal Grinder will be responsible for setting up and operating precision grinding machines to produce high-quality precision components. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to producing parts that meet strict quality standards.

The role may also involve other methods of grinding such as centreless, cylindrical and surface grinding. Training will be provided on these, for the successful candidate, if needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Machine Setup: Prepare and set up universal grinding machines, ensuring all tools, fixtures, and materials are in place for efficient operations.
  • Grinding Operations: Operate universal grinders to grind and finish metal components to specified dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.
  • Quality Control: Inspect workpieces during and after grinding to ensure they meet quality standards and blueprint specifications.
  • Tool Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on grinding equipment, including sharpening and replacing grinding wheels as needed.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment and prevent accidents.
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoot and address issues related to machine performance or product quality promptly.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with team members and supervisors to coordinate production schedules and meet production targets.
  • Cleanliness and Organization: Keep the work area clean and organized to ensure a safe and efficient workspace.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Universal Grinder Operator in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, precision measurements, and blueprint reading.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Team player with effective communication skills.

Salary & Hours

Salary: Up to £15 - £17ph (dependant on experience)
Hours: Mon-Thurs 7.30am - 4pm, Friday 7.30am - 12.30pm (Flexible hours available)

Job Type - Permanent, Full Time
