Metalis are working in partnership with a reputable manufacturing company who are a leading designer, manufacturer and installer of bespoke fabrications and washrooms. Beyond just creating washroom furniture they believe in building solid relationships and providing the same premium quality service to all their clients and suppliers. Role Overview:

As a Design Manager you will be responsible for the management and leadership of the design phase of projects, from Sales handover through to supplier handover, and includes Construction & As Built drawing. The role is based on delivering cost-effective washrooms product design solutions that meet client & contractor's requirements within standard project lead-times, working to project priorities not local optimisation. You will need to liaise with architects, main contrators, installers and other external parties.

The business uses an internal ERP system for which training will be provided. However, it is important that you are computer literate and are confident in using Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel. A suitable candidate would be confident in verbal and written forms of communication and able to communicate to people both internally and externally in a clear and professional manner.

The Design & Contracts Department is fast paced with many projects running at various locations on the same day, it is important that you are able to prioritise and organise your workload efficiently.

The ability to work in a team is very important, maintaining close relationships with Projects Managers and CAD Technicians. You will be required to file both electronic and physical documentation and maintain records in line with existing systems.

Job Responsilibities:

Project Mobilisation

  • Attending Sales Handover meeting from Sales and taking design responsibility for the project.

  • Deep dive into project to identify risks, challenges, opportunities, commercial or scope queries.

  • Identify key tasks and responsibilities with project team and agree with PM using project tracker.

Programme

  • Proactively manage design process to deliver within the programme.
  • Review & agree on viability of the proposed project programme as required by the Main Contractor and our team.
  • Daily reporting on Project Programme with progress/delays on Initial Drawings, Design Approval & Survey/Agreed Dimension project stages

Design Management

  • Attend deep-dive meeting with PM to understand project, scope requirements and lead-times to set out project tasks in Project Task Tracker.

  • In-depth understanding of design and products being delivered.

  • Identify project mock-ups required with PM.

  • Identify project long-lead-time items

  • Prepare preliminary design scope of the project prior to the Design workshop meeting with Client, Main Contractor and Architect

  • Schedule and hold Design Workshop meeting with Main Contractor and Architect with PM to initiate the design process.

  • DM to prepare and issue samples/technical submissions for approval including uploading to any relevant portals & follow through to approval or rejection as required, using PM to assist with presentation where required.

  • Assist PM with information & attend co-ordination and design meetings with Main Contractor, Architect, and other trades during design stages.

  • Review & issue design brief with drawing instructions to CAD Technicians for each project phase in accordance with RopeWeaver and survey protocol.

  • Attend site if required, normally only at start of installation stages along with PM & installers.

  • Resolve design issues affecting procurement, manufacturing or installation stages.

  • DM to upload BOM's to AX as required

Procurement

  • Reserving long-lead-time items.
  • Provide clear manufacturing drawing and specification details for Operations to procure key packages such as furniture, glass, sanitaryware, solid surfaces & installation in accordance with the procurement protocol.
  • Confirm validity of quotes for external products or obtain new quotations where relevant

Commercial

  • Proactively manage design process to achieve cost effective product and specification solutions to increase the exit margin over the initial project budget.
  • Evaluate contract docs with PM and identify any special project requirements and notes.
  • Assist PM in all scope changes, variations, additional costs and submit to Main Contractor in accordance with variation procedure.
  • Assist PM to process and action any SI's received within 24 hrs.
  • Assist PM to prepare and submit monthly valuations to Main Contractor working with the Contracts Administrator on design aspects.
  • Elevate any potential budget over-runs or discrepancies in the quote and/or Main Contractor's interpretation of what is included in the measured works.

Administrative

  • Attend daily Design Team huddle meetings.
  • Attend weekly Design Team meetings.
  • Communicate with all team members on each project, both Main Contractor & team
  • Project Administration including Document Control and Uploading of drawings onto web portals etc.
  • Issuing factory paperwork including cut lists & despatch sheets or raw material requisitions.
  • Maintain the ERP system workflow and update as required

Pay and Hours:

07:00am to 16:30pm - Mon-Thurs 07:00am to 15:15pm - Fri

£40,000-55,000 DOE
