Trainee Welder

Metalis are currently working with a leading engineering company who looking for a dedicated and motivated individual with an interest in engineering to join their team. As a Trainee Welder, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of welding, learning the skills and techniques necessary to become a proficient welder. You will work under the guidance and supervision of experienced welders and trainers to develop a strong foundation in welding processes, safety protocols, and industry standards. This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for hands-on work, a keen eye for detail, and a desire to learn and grow in the field of welding.



You must be happy with international and national travel and have a Full UK driving license.



Overview:

As a trainee welder you will develop skills which will make you an integral part of the team when working off site on exciting projects. You will be able to develop your knowledge in other areas such as cold stitching, cold spraying and using other factory machinery.



Shift Pattern: Days Regular

Monday - Thursday: 7:00-16:00

Friday - 7:00- 15:00



Pay rate:

£13 - 15ph DOE + Overtime / Allowances / Van / Pension / Sick pay



Key Responsibilities:





  • Learning Welding: Techniques: Undergo training in various welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, Flux core and stick welding to acquire skills necessary for different welding applications.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict safety guidelines and protocols to ensure personal safety and the safety of others in the work environment. Learn about proper protective equipment, fire prevention, and hazard identification.
  • Equipment Familiarity: Get acquainted with welding tools and equipment, including welding machines, torches, electrodes, and welding consumables. Learn how to properly set up and maintain equipment for optimal performance.
  • Material Preparation: Learn how to prepare materials for welding, including cleaning, cutting, grinding, and fitting. Understand the importance of proper material selection and quality control.
  • Blueprint Reading: Develop the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to understand project requirements accurately.
  • Weld Quality Control: Learn about visual inspection techniques to assess the quality of welds and identify potential defects. Understand how to perform basic non-destructive testing (NDT) methods.
  • Workplace Organization: Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of tools, equipment, and materials. Learn the importance of efficient workflow and time management.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with experienced welders, supervisors, and colleagues to receive guidance, feedback, and support. Assist senior welders in various tasks and projects as directed.
  • Documentation: Develop skills in maintaining accurate work records, including welding parameters, materials used, and project progress. Learn to complete reports and documentation as required.



Person Specification:





  • Previous experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment (preferred)
  • Previous experience as a welder fabricator is desirable
  • Physical dexterity and strength to handle welding tools and materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and learning.
  • Willingness to follow safety protocols and guidelines
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
