Metalis is working in partnership with a well-established precision engineering business who are seeking a Production Engineer to support their machine shop operations.
This is a key engineering position that will play a pivotal role in developing machining processes, streamlining production efficiency, and supporting the introduction of new components into manufacturing. With a senior team member set to retire, there will be a structured handover and training period in place to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
The Role
The successful candidate will work closely with the manufacturing and planning teams to ensure smooth production flow across a variety of heavy and complex machined components. Your primary focus will be on offline CAD/CAM programming, fixture planning, and technical process development to support CNC turning, milling, and boring operations.
Main Responsibilities
Produce and maintain CNC programmes using CAD/CAM software for offline programming
Develop tooling and fixture solutions to support efficient, repeatable machining operations
Review and refine production processes to minimise setup time, reduce scrap, and optimise throughput
Work alongside production and planning teams to avoid delays and improve workflow
Support prove-out of new programs and assist operators with setup and technical guidance
Generate documentation for the shop floor, including setup instructions, tooling lists, and technical notes
Participate in process improvement initiatives across the machine shop
Liaise with suppliers on tooling requirements and new technology where applicable
Support material planning and scheduling to ensure readiness for production
Attend production meetings and assist in identifying potential delays or issues
What We're Looking For
Proven experience in a similar manufacturing or CNC engineering role
Skilled in CAD/CAM software (EdgeCAM or equivalent)
Solid understanding of CNC machining practices, cutting tools, and metal materials
Hands-on experience working within a machine shop environment
Able to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
Familiarity with production planning systems (MRP/ERP)
Strong communicator who works well within cross-functional teams
Analytical mindset with good problem-solving ability
Comfortable managing projects independently
Nice to Have:
Experience with Fanuc-controlled machinery
Exposure to machining cast or batch components
Working knowledge of Lean/5S or similar methodologies
HND or equivalent in a mechanical/manufacturing discipline (apprenticeship-trained preferred)
Some experience supporting or training colleagues is a plus
