Job Role: Workshop Machinist



Location: Coventry + travel (UK and International)



Salary: Up to £55k OTE



This role requires extensive travel within the UK and internationally, and candidates must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to travel as needed.



Job Duties:

  • Set up and operate manual machining equipment, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, vertical borers and other workshop tools.
  • Must be confident programming setting and operating CNC machines
  • Perform assigned on-site machining tasks with precision and efficiency.
  • Monitor and control job costs to adhere to planned levels.
  • Prepare necessary equipment for upcoming assignments.
  • Conduct surveys of potential work sites, gathering comprehensive technical, administrative, and commercial information for method proposals and quotations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to produce components to precise measurements.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspection of machines to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Measure and verify dimensions of finished parts using precision instruments such as micrometres, calipers, and gauges.
  • Work with a variety of materials, including metals, plastics, and composites, as required.
  • Collaborate with engineers and team members to optimise machining processes and resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Record production activities, including timesheets and job completion logs, ensuring accurate documentation.



Job Requirements:

  • Manual machining experience (essential)
  • CNC machining experience (desired)
  • NVQ or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering, Machining, or a related field
  • Proficiency in the operation of manual lathes, milling machines, and grinders and CNC machinery
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of machining principles, cutting tools, and measurement techniques
  • Keen eye for detail and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with safety standards and best practices in a workshop environment
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • Experience in a heavy engineering environment
