About the Role:

Metalis are currently supporting a metal stockist who are seeking a skilled and reliable Workshop Operative to join their warehouse team. This is a permanent position working with engineering metal stock.

Overview:

We are ideally seeking someone who has experience operating overhead cranes and experience using band saws or circular saws

Salary: Starting at £13.00 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week

  • Shift 1: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Shift 2: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Monday to Friday
Breaks: 30-minute unpaid lunch, plus two paid 15-minute breaks

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating overhead cranes (experience essential)
  • Using circular saws for cutting steel to specification
  • Handling and processing metal bars and materials
  • Identifying different grades of steel using color codes and labeling systems
  • Adhering to health and safety standards within a busy steel warehouse environment
  • Supporting general warehouse and production duties as required

Essential Experience:

  • Previous experience in a steel stockholding or engineering bar environment
  • Proficiency operating overhead cranes
  • Experience using band saws or circular saws
  • Ability to identify and handle different types of engineering steel materials
  • Must live locally or have reliable transport due to early shift times (buses may not be suitable)

Desirable:

  • Experience working with metal bars/stock and grades of steels
  • Previous background in steel service centres or metal manufacturing companies

Additional Information:

  • Overtime may be available depending on business needs, paid at time and a half
  • Salary reviewed after probation
  • No forklift operation required - lifting and handling done via overhead cranes
