Continuous Improvement Project Engineer

Location: Barnsley
Hours: 4-day working week (40 hours, flexible)
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Metalis Engineering Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a specialist process and metals manufacturing company in Barnsley who are seeking a Continuous Improvement Project Engineer to lead optimisation and improvement projects across production, engineering, and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support senior management to identify, prioritise and plan key optimisation projects across the site
  • Prepare, budget, coordinate and monitor engineering projects relating to process improvements, plant upgrades or new investments
  • Lead projects such as the improvement of existing processes, services or products, and plant repair or revamp programmes
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external contractors to ensure all work meets specification, budget and timelines
  • Monitor compliance with performance standards, quality assurance, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Support technical and production departments to meet customer requirements
  • Conduct quality control of work, including budgets, schedules, plans, and contractor performance
  • Provide regular progress reports to senior management and key stakeholders
  • Assign responsibilities and oversee project teams, ensuring effective communication and collaboration
  • Promote and support a culture of continuous improvement across engineering and production operations

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Project Engineer, Continuous Improvement Engineer, or similar in a manufacturing or process engineering environment
  • Excellent knowledge of design and visualisation software, with advanced MS Office skills
  • Experience using CAD and producing technical documentation such as circuit diagrams, process schematics, and functional diagrams
  • Strong understanding of measurement and control technologies, and awareness of industry standards and best practices
  • Experience managing projects across multiple departments with the ability to coordinate and lead effectively
  • Excellent decision-making, planning and organisational skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with a methodical and analytical mindset
  • Degree-qualified in Process, Metallurgical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, or a relevant discipline
