Job Role: Contracts Metallurgy Technician
Location: Sheffield
Shift: Monday to Friday, Regular Days. 09:00am until 5pm.

Metalis are working in partnership with a busy Engineering business in Sheffield, who due to continuous growth are looking to hire an experienced Contracts Metallurgy Technician on a permanent basis.



Job Duties:

  • Undertake contract reviews (including OEM related orders) to ensure the material to be purchased or allocated meets customer requirements.
  • Ensure a suitable, cost-effective production route has been created
  • Ensure any additional testing has been identified and make amendments where necessary to ensure that the finished job will meet requirements
  • Provide support of an operational and technical nature whilst performing contract review of incoming purchase orders, intra-company order requirements and specification/procedural requirements.
  • To review manufacturing routes to ensure compliance with specification and purchase order requirements
  • Work in conjunction with engineering, quality and sales department to create manufacturing routes
  • Review and interpret complex material specifications
  • Create documentation such as test requirement sheets for mechanical, analytical, non-destructive and metallurgical testing, manufacturing process specifications, inspection and test plans and subcontract purchase order instructions to heat treatment and machining companies as required.
  • Working with the customer to resolve all technical and operational issues that arise in a timely manner.
  • Raising concessions for submission to the customer
  • Raising and resolving NCR's
  • Acting as the interface between the customer and our suppliers.
  • Visiting suppliers and customers and acting and accompanying our customers on supplier visits
  • Witnessing specific processes/testing to ensure they are produced in a way that complies with ours and our customer's requirements.
  • Raising customer related certificates and documentation packages and submission of documentation to the customer
  • Cover Technical & Quality Manager in their absence.
  • Entering/filing of specifications in Filestream, Epicor and Optimat.
  • NDT - Overall Technical Responsibility
  • Hardness - Overall Technical Responsibility
  • REACH, ROHS & Conflict Minerals responsibility to updating and maintaining documents.
  • Provide training as required for sales and purchasing staff to cover technical aspects of the business including new starters, backward integration for existing staff and refresher training as identified by department heads

Desirable Skills and Attributes:

  • Degree or HND in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years in industry experience.
  • Experience of melting, hot working, and testing
  • Experience of writing procedures and training employees across a business.
  • Experience of Quality Management Reviews and FMEAs
  • Worked within Continuous Improvement cultures.
  • Experience with reviewing manufacturing routes to ensure compliance.
  • Experience of writing technical reports
  • Experience of working to OEM technical specifications and Quality requirements.
  • Experience of error proofing
  • Good problem-solving skills with a good understanding and experience of using methods such as 8D, 5 Whys, Six Sigma
