Job Title: Tool Engineer

Salary: Up to £28,979 pa (dependant on experience) & £1.14ph shift allowance (dependant on shift)

Hours: Various Shifts available:

Double Days - Mon-Fri 6am - 2.15pm / 2pm - 10.15pm (37.75 hours)
Weekend nights - Friday 8pm-6am / Saturday & Sunday 6pm - 6am (34 hours)

Job Description:

Metalis are seeking a dedicated Tool Engineer to join our leading manufacturing client, based in Kidderminster. You will provide essential support to the Toolroom Manager while playing a vital role in our Foundry Production Process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Toolroom Function: Collaborate with the Toolroom team to maintain, repair, and optimize various dies and shear tools used in the manufacturing process.
  • Die Casting Machine Operation: Perform tasks on and around Die Casting Machines, ensuring that all activities strictly adhere to safety procedures.
  • Foundry Production Support: Assist in maximizing production activities, following work schedules outlined by the Toolroom Manager to maintain efficient manufacturing cell operations.
  • Die Maintenance: Conduct full strip-down procedures for open and shut dies, as well as dies with sliding hydraulic or manual cores.
  • Welding and Reforming: Skillfully perform welding and manual breakout repairs, ensuring dies are in optimal working condition.
  • Jig and Fixture Manufacturing: Create and maintain jigs and fixtures, aligning with technical specifications.
  • Shear Tool Maintenance: Conduct complete strip-down procedures for shear tools, including punch and core pin manufacturing from technical drawings.
  • Assembly: Assemble shot stems, tips, and associated components with precision.
  • Hydraulic Knowledge: Possess expertise in hydraulic systems, including the ability to re-seal and verify safety.
  • Solder Removal: Safely remove solder from dies on the Die Casting Machine (DCM).
  • Welding Repairs: Perform welding repairs on die breakouts inside the DCM.
  • Core Pin and Shear Tool Replacement: Change broken core pins on the die casting machine and replace broken shear tool punches on the DCM.
  • Testing and Inspection: Thoroughly test water cooling channels and hydraulics in die casting tools.
  • Compliance: Adhere to foundry and company procedures, particularly in relation to safety and quality.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Assist in tooling preventative maintenance and contribute to continuous improvement activities.

Ideal Skills

  • Welding and free hand forming of cavity steel.
  • Machining, lathe, horizontal miller, surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, radial drill experience.
  • Ability to read and understand CAD drawings and models.
