The client
Hope Valley Cement Works in Derbyshire is one of the largest cement plants in the UK. Breedon needed its old crusher taken out and a new one put in, with the plant still running.
The challenge
The crusher had been in service for 74 years. Taking it apart meant working in confined spaces, cutting at night because of fumes, and removing tonnes of old concrete.
All of it had to happen without interrupting cement production.
What we did
We put together a contract team to run the replacement from start to finish. The team:
- kept Breedon’s managers up to date at every stage
- managed the other contractors and the purchasing
- ran strict safety controls for the night-time cutting
- found safe ways to dismantle the crusher and clear the concrete
- planned the work so the plant kept producing
The outcome
The old crusher came out and the new one went in, in confined spaces and on schedule.
The plant kept running throughout, so supply to customers was never interrupted.
